3 Not a satisfying experience
Posted by Frank Carr on Nov 15th 2024
I have always wanted a pizza oven, so when I saw this bella PRO Blaze Pizza Oven+ I just had to get it. There is nothing like that pizza oven crust on a fresh pizza! Bonus that it comes with a pizza stone and peel. There are no cutout handles on the box, so I definitely needed assistance carrying this from my car and getting this out of the box and onto the counter. This is a sizable counter-top appliance at around 17.5" x 19" and weighing 30 pounds. There really is no setting-up to do other than to clean the stone and put the handle on the peel. I then ran it at the top temp of 750 degrees for 15 minutes to clear out any "protective substance" that may be left in the oven, per the instructions. During that process, there was no abnormal smells nor was there smoke. I thoroughly read through the included instruction manual. This pizza oven is designed for more than just pizza - it can also cook fish, quesadillas and the like but it is not to be used for dishes that would splatter oil/grease in the oven such as steaks, chicken and bacon. There is a window so that you can watch your food cook, which is nice. There are only 2 nobs on this - one for the temperature and the other for the timer, which goes up to 30 minutes. it must be noted that there is no auto-off on this oven. After you set your temp and the timer and insert your food, the timer will ring when it is at the end but it will not turn off the oven. The oven must be turned off manually. This reminds me of toaster ovens of many years ago, when the timer was just a timer. Personally, I do like this feature at all. This is a powerful and extremely hot oven, and to accidentally leave it on could prove dangerous. In my first attempt at using this pizza oven,I got some fresh pizza crust, let it proof, rolled it out and put on my toppings. I preheated the pizza oven. The pizza stone is 12", so you must be mindful not to make your pizza any larger than that. My dough stuck to the pizza peel when I attempted to slide it into the oven even though it had been floured. Perhaps it needed cornmeal instead. At any rate, I tried to help slide it off the peel with a spatula and when it finally got into the oven, it was somewhat of a mess inside, but the pizza was still a pizza. It cooked and the timer went off, I turned off the oven, and took the pizza out only to find the top had burnt and the crust was raw. In addition, there was a mess of stuck on dough and cheese inside the oven. This was a disappointing first attempt and may be attributed to some user error, but this was not a good experience and, frankly, too much time and trouble for me. I believe that through trial and error, I could possibly get this bella PRO Blaze Pizza Oven+ to work as it is designed, but this one time was just too much for me. I may decide at some point to give it another try. I would definitely like this more if the oven would turn off when the timer does - that is a safety feature I am surprised isn't here. Would I recommend this pizza oven to friends or family? Unfortunately at this point in time, I would not.

5 Love it! Rotate midway through cooking though!
Posted by Richard Castro on Nov 11th 2024
As the title says we absolutely LOVE our bella Pro Blaze Pizza Oven+! It took me back to my teenage & young adult years when I worked at a franchise location for a nationwide pizza chain. Taking the pizza oven out of the box I found it nice that they included everything you need to get started including the pizza scraper/peel. Setting up the pizza oven was super easy & straight forward. I decided after I got it all unpackaged that I would take it upon myself to make pizza for us one night when my significant other had to work late. I followed the instructions and set the temp on the highest setting and cooked away everything that might have gotten into the oven during packaging & transport. I got the pizza ready & put it in the oven following the directions on the packaging for the pizza. I put it in the oven and cooked it for the recommended time. What I did not think about, or take into account was that just like a lot of ovens I've used in the past, including our current oven, I needed to rotate the pizza probably midway through cooking so as not to burn the back/rear side of the pizza. I did not do this and the pizza came out kind of burnt on that back/rear side that is farthest away from the door. Lesson learned on that one. The pizza still came out tasty & we really enjoyed it. Best of all it appears it takes less energy than our large oven and it seems to heat up our home less. Which is great during the warmer months. I showed it to my adult aged sons & they each said they would love to have one. So I'll be probably getting them one for Christmas this year. In closing, I found that the bella Pro Blaze Pizza Oven+ is a really great appliance in our home. This is our second bella product (along with the 9 qt tri-zone air fryer) and I must say that both of them are really great & we love them both. They have become staples in our home and we are utilizing them both fairly frequently. Of course I would recommend this item to family & friends as I already have for my sons and will be getting them each one for Christmas.

3 Fun and Frustrating
Posted by Frank Diaz on Oct 28th 2024
The bella Pro Blaze Pizza Oven is fun and frustrating all at the same time. The oven itself is well made. It is relatively heavy and pretty well insulated, although the outside will get hot with extended use. You need to exercise caution when using, and keep small hands away. Operation is simple. Plug it in, and there are two dials. One for temp and one for time. You set the temp, let it preheat, and then add you food and set the timer. I think it has an auto shut off after 10 minutes if you get distracted and haven’t added your food. You can’t change the temp while cooking, so keep that in mind. It’s not a big deal, you just have to cancel the cook and reset the temp and time if you need to change the temp. You can add cook time if needed. Actually using it definitely has a learning curve. It’s essentially a small oven, so you can use it for just about anything even though it has pizza in the name. Just make sure you bakeware can handle whatever temperature you use. I’ve only used mine for pizza. I was disappointed that it didn’t come with any type of recipe book in the box. I’m having to figure out how to make a good pizza on my own through web searches and trial and error. I’m having trouble with my pizzas sticking to the peel and not wanting to slide off onto the preheated stone. I’m not quite sure how to solve that problem…maybe cornmeal? So far, I’ve found that my best option is to use my high temp meat smoking gloves and just pull the pre-heated stone out. Here is my process. Preheat, pull the stone, put the crust on the stone, pre-bake the crust for a full 5 minutes, pull the stone again, add toppings, and bake an additional 10 minutes. The Peel works great for taking it out of the oven. This is with a medium thickness crust. I completely understand that my ability to make a good pizza isn’t necessarily a function of this oven, but without any tips or tricks, I find it equally frustrating and fun. I think it would be fun for a backyard pizza party as a novel theme, but I’m not sure I’m really going to pull it out too often just to cook a pizza. I do think I’ll use it as an auxiliary oven around the holidays. It’s big, but not as big as I thought it might be. Make sure you have someplace you can store it when not in use. You have to clean it up or it will smoke on you when pre-heating. I find that crumbs end up off the stone when I use the peel to remove the pizza. Then I have to let it cool and try to wipe it all down after the fact. The crumbs get down under the bottom element and you have to do a little work to get them out. There isn’t a lot of room for hands and elbows in there. Not terrible, but I wouldn’t call it “easy”. Overall, I’m kind of underwhelmed. I had romanticized making pizza in an cool little oven, but if I’m being honest, it’s just as easy in my regular oven. Considering this isn’t wood fired, you don’t really get an improved flavor. It’s fun as a novelty, but I don’t find it superior to my normal oven. Perhaps if I learn how to make pizza at 700 degrees I’ll think differently, but since they didn’t tell me how to do that, I haven’t figure it out yet.

5 More than just a pizza oven
Posted by Lisa Larson on Oct 23rd 2024
TL;DR - The Bella Pro Blaze Pizza Oven+ is a serious contender for the ultimate kitchen appliance. It makes a solid pizza, it's terrific for baking small batches of cookies, biscuits and cakes, and it even does some air fryer things pretty well. The included pizza peel is easy to clean and use, as is the pizza stone. The only real negative is if you don't have the counter space for it, you'll need to put it away when not in use. Super solid value for sure, though. Unboxing and setup - This is definitely packaged well, but the foam insert is tight so you may need help with getting the unit out of the box. Once out, you'll need to remove a little bit of tape that holds the door shut. Put the pizza stone in it, and run it for 15 minutes at 750 degrees to get any residual oils and odors out of the oven and pizza stone. I'll cover the quirks of the controls in a bit. Assembly of the pizza peel is a little weird. I ended up punching the nut through the hole in it on the metal portion of the peel because the hole was a little small for the bolt. once the hole was enlarged, assembly was quick. Usage - while the controls do make sense, the lack of a dedicated stop cooking button is something I was surprised about. The knob on the left is temperature control and the knob on the right is a timer. To start the oven, just twist the knob to set your temperature and press the knob to start the pre-heating. Set the timer, and wait for your food. Once you're done cooking, you'll press the temperature knob twice to power the oven down (nothing on the display). Before you unplug, make sure you allow the unit to cool itself. I did make a few things with this oven - pizza, cookies, brownies, cake, chicken wings, and enchiladas. While there is a small learning curve with using the oven, everything came out perfect with some practice. The only complaint I have, like I said, is the lack of a dedicated stop cooking button. When you use the oven without reading the instruction manual, you'll wonder how to turn it off and possibly cause damage by pulling power while it's still hot. Other than that one thing, however, the Bella Pro Blaze Pizza Oven+ is a solid performer in any kitchen. A great option when you need something that can do it all and with ease.

4 Pizza needs to be turned or back will burn
Posted by Eric Kim on Oct 23rd 2024
I'm a bit mixed on how to rate this pizza oven, and full disclosure, it's the first pizza oven I've used. I'd overall rate this in the 3.5-4 range. I leaned towards the 4 because it really did make great pizza despite the drawbacks, and I'm excited to continue using it. Here's are the main drawbacks that prevent a full 5/5 rating: - The only significant complaint is the back of the oven gets hotter than the rest of the oven, so while the rest of the pizza cooks evenly, if you don't rotate the pizza, the back of the pizza will burn, or at least be more thoroughly cooked than the rest of the pizza. While slightly burnt, it wasn't to the point of not wanting to eat the pizza, and it was still delicious. - The pizza peel (a new word I learned that refers to the big shovel used to insert and remove the pizza from the oven) is not quite as sturdy as I would like it to be. It seems the weight of the pizza has already caused it to bend ever so slightly, and while it's perfectly fine now, I'm concerned that after months of use, it may need to be replaced. Other things to be mindful of: - It's fairly bulky as far as countertop appliances go, though not excessively so for a pizza oven. Make sure you have somewhere to use and store it. - It can cook pizzas up to 12", which is a reasonable size, but smaller than I expected. I ended up ordering a Take and Bake pizza that was a 12" medium, and it just slightly overlapped the pizza stone in the oven. Here's what's great: - Despite the slight burning of the crust in the back of the oven, it made a great pizza and did so quickly. I used it for 2 small, make-your-own, Bobolli style pizzas the first day, and a Take and Bake pizza the second day. I cranked the oven up to 750 for the first pizzas, and they were done in <3 minutes, which was really awesome. - It's easy to use. There are only 2 knobs, one for temperature, and one for a timer, so there's nothing to really fuss with. It goes through a preheat cycle that can take up to 20 minutes according to the setup manual, but that's for 750 degrees, and it's shorter for lower temperatures. Given we're looking at a countertop pizza oven, I'd still recommend this despite the rear getting hotter than the rest of the oven. I think that's a fairly common issue, and even in professional kitchens, I see chefs turning the pizza halfway through when cooking using their large commercial pizza oven. The first day, we cooked one pizza in the regular oven, and 2 in this pizza oven to compare, and the pizza oven pizzas definitely turned out better. Being able to crank out a pizza in 2-3 minutes at 750 degrees is awesome, and it melted the cheese and cooked everything well.

4 Style and Simplicity
Posted by Megan Clark on Oct 7th 2024
Bella Pro does a really good job with finding a pizza oven that is simple to use but also blends in nicely to keep on display on your kitchen countertop. Not often do I want to sacrifice precious countertop space for something that I won't use that often. But this is not just a pizza oven, you can really blast up the heat to an impressive 750 degrees to take certain dishes to that restaurant level in the comfort of your own home. Of course if you want to step up your pizza game, this oven does a good job of making that simple. It only has 2 knobs, 1 for controlling heat, and 1 for setting up the timer. It fits a standard 12 inch pizza, includes the pizza stone, and pizza peel. I wanted to try a pizza first of course. Of course you can make your own from scratch but the real test was making frozen pizzas from the grocery store taste like they are restaurant quality. After trying a few and playing with different temps and times, I can honestly say that it was such an easy way to bake a take home pizza. I'm thinking next will be some casserole style dishes or baked salmon. The big window built into the door is such a great way to keep an eye on your cook and ensure that you can't screw it up as long as you are attentive. I do wish it had a built in light though. I also wish the door to open and close was a bit smoother. The wide and I unfortunately keep slamming it by accident as we pull and push it back in but that may just take some getting used to. Quality seems decent and even at full blast heat, it doesn't radiate as much as I though it would. This makes it perfect to cook underneath my kitchen cabinets without fear that the heat would effect them much.
