    Great Air purifier

Posted by Andrea Jimenez on Nov 25th 2024

One of the best air purifiers so far. This air purifier is great. It's no that big or bulky. It runs very quietly to the point that you can hear it. The bottom portion of the unit is the filter. The filter is covered by a cloth like cover. The filtered air is the pushed out from the top. The air can be a little cool at times. The unit can be connected to a app for more customized settings and features. On the app, it can give you detailed information on air quality, filter life, and more. One of the great features is the "night mode". Night mode makes the unit run more quietly but still maintain the air quality. The fan has three settings and then the night mode. The light indicators on the unit help the user identify if the air is clean. Overall, this is a great air filter the features of the unit itself is a great value the connection of the app to access additional features makes it even better. This would make a great gift for anyone. The size of the unit also doesnt take up too much space.

Stylish Air Purifier with App Integration

Posted by Wendy Merritt on Nov 24th 2024

The Blue Pure Air 511i is yet another winning air purifier from a brand that I really like. Blueair makes some of my favorite air purifiers. They tend to be stylish, quiet, and perform well. The Blue Pure Air 511i Max is no exception. From the pre-filter to Wi-Fi connectivity, nearly everything about the experience is first rate. Setup: Thankfully, the purifier comes ready to use out of the box. The unit is comprised of a base and a twist on top with the fan unit and controls. The prefilter and filter attach to the base of the unit. You can purchase replacement pre-filters of assorted colors to match your specific room’s aesthetic. Replacement pre-filters run around $9 at the time of this review and replacement filters are about $29.99 although there are specialty filters for allergens and smoke that run a bit more. Wi-fi connectivity is easy to set up. You need the Blueair app, but the app will walk you through connecting the purifier to your Wi-Fi network. Experience: The purifier is stylish and quiet. On lower settings it is inaudible. I evaluated the purifier with the candle smoke test and the purifier recognized the smoke from the candle and cleared the air quickly. One feature I have especially appreciated is the child lock. I do not have to worry about my toddler accidentally turning the purifier off or changing settings. The app experience is particularly good. You can control the purifier from the application and get limited readouts of your room’s air quality. Everything in the app works well. This also means there is smart home integration for the Blue Pure Air 511i. However, at the time of my review, Alexa integration does not work. You cannot sign in or connect the skill at this time and all the 1-star reviews back this reality up. However, I was able to get things working well through Google Home. Conclusion: This is another impressive air purifier from Blueair. The new features work very well. The only nitpick I have is that Alexa integration is currently broken. Still, everything else has worked well and I am sure I will be buying more pre-filters and filters for this purifier for years to come. 4.5/5

    excellent at particulate removal

Posted by Joshua Kim on Nov 22nd 2024

This air filter is well made, and actually looks quite nice. It is not too big or bulky, and blends in any area easily. It is listed as being able to clean a large room - up to a 920 square feet - in 1 hour. I placed it in a smaller room of about 150 square feet, and ran the machine on medium setting. The fan is whisper quiet – even on high setting – and on low or medium settings, it is hardly audible. There is a Blue Air app which allows you to monitor air quality, scheduling, filter tracking, and many other features that can be customized. The unit can be easily disassembled for cleaning and / or filter replacement. The outer per-filter can be washed and reused. The inner main filter seems quite large with many pleats, and should last quite a long time – of course depending on room size, and level of particulate matter in the air. It is rated to “remove at least 99.97% of tiny airborne particles like viruses and smoke down to 0.1 microns, and capture pet dander, pollen, mold, allergen and dust”. It worked well removing dust and dander from the room I used it in. It was also listed as being able to trap light household odors from smoke, pets and cooking. Again, in the room where I was testing we also used as a “sleeping” room for two cats. On this, even with the charcoal filter, the unit fell short. After running all night, I didn't notice much of a difference in the pet odor in the room in the morning. For a cleaner environment, and the ability to remove dust, particulate matter, and even viruses, this might be a good choice. For this purpose, I would recommend. As far as odor removal, this doesn't seem to be highly effective.

    Loved it!

Posted by Sandra Nguyen on Nov 21st 2024

I bought this Air Purifier for my teen daughter since she had been having allergies and a bit of breathing issues. This item just so happend to pop up on my social media and decided to give it a try. I love that is not noisy at all, and my daughter loved that she can control it with her cellphone and Alexa. She was so excited to wake up feeling better and in her words "I love breathing" lol.

Great Air Purifier for Small Rooms

Posted by Randall Floyd on Nov 21st 2024

If you have a small bedroom or home office and are concerned about the air quality, then you must look into the Blueair Blue Pure 511iMax. I already own the larger 411i Max sister unit in my master bedroom and have been a giant fan. I’ll tell you why! Firstly, the 511iMax is a fairly small unit. It’s nearly the same size as my office wastepaper basket. It stands about 14.5” tall and is about 9.3” round. It’s easy to find an empty spot to place it. The power cord is certainly long enough to get it anywhere. It’s incredibly light – the weight is really at the top in the fan/control unit. The main body is hollow inside, surrounded by filter. The white top / grey lower color scheme is certainly Swedish influenced as mentioned on the packaging. I think this doesn’t blend in any more than it stands out. It’s a good example of a set it and forget it device. Now that it’s been in my office for several days, I don’t even notice it’s there. As for the unit, there are controls on the top of unit in the fan. There are two touch sensitive buttons: power and fan. The fan button cycles through 5 modes: Auto, Night Mode, and 3 different levels of fan strength. As the fan strength increases, so does the volume. At the third and highest level it is for sure a noticeable sound, but frankly not any louder than any other fan running on high. There is a night mode designed to run at the lowest speeds and dim all the lights. As for lights, there’s one to indicate which mode, a dot for wifi status, and on the front of the unit rather than on top is a pill shaped light that changes color for the air quality status: Blue for excellent, green for good, yellow for moderate, yellow for polluted, red for very polluted. The lights, even at their highest settings, aren’t too bad, although at night in a very dark room they ARE noticeable. The lower section of the unit is the filter itself. This consists of both a replaceable filter and a pre-filter cover. They say, depending on the air quality level, the filter needs to be replaced every 6-9 months. I find this to be reasonable. Replacements also come in higher filtration levels. You can purchase replacement filters that filter out more particulate matter. The pre-filter is the grey color fabic you can see surrounding the unit. This can be both vacuumed and washed depending on how dirty it is. It can also be bought and replaced in different colors, should you wish to change up the mood. The big deal with the 511iMax is that it is internet connected. The phone app was easy to set up. If you’ve set up any WiFi connected smart device, the process is pretty similar: you open the app, it connects to the unit via Bluetooth, you tell it the WiFi connection info, and it saves and you’re good to go! The app can control all the features of the device and more. So, you can adjust modes, set a child-mode to prevent button touches from activating, adjust the LED brightness, see your estimated filter life, as well as scheduling and geofencing. The scheduling lets you set the intensity and LED status on any recurring schedule. I set it to automatically go to night mode in the evening. The Welcome Home geofencing mode lets you put it into standby when leaving and returning to your house. It’s a neat feature, but I just let mine run at auto at all times. The app is also great for letting you see charts of your air quality. This includes every internet connected Blueair filter you have as well as outdoor air quality statistics. If you thought what happens outdoors doesn’t effect the indoors, think again! I have this filter in my office, a space I spend a lot of time in, as well as my dog. This space has poorer air circulation than the rest of the house, so this has been fantastic at keeping both the staleness of unmoving air, plus the inevitable smells of middle aged man and dog. If you’re wondering if I’ve actually noticed a difference, the answer is a resounding yes! You can not only look at the color light to see the activity, but if it’s on auto, you may hear the fan level rising as it cleans the air. Candles in the office don’t alter anything, but a hit off a vape pen or my wife using copious amounts of hairspray in the other room will set it off! And, at least one time, my dog did expel some flatulence right in front of the machine, and as hoped for, the air quality went down and it started to clean the air! I don’t have much in the ways of downsides, but I do want to clarify some potentially misleading information in terms of what size room this filter can handle. According to BlueAir itself, the recommended room size for this filter is “up to 193 square feet.” That’s not to say you can’t put it in a larger room – but the larger the room, the longer it could take to clean spaces. In this case, 193 square feet can be filtered through in 12.5 minutes, 460 square feet in 30 minutes, and 920 in an hour. Franky, I’m not 100% sure what the real negatives are for those longer times. I’m making an assumption that it’s really a matter of reducing smells and particulate matter quicker. That said, I’m of the mindset to stick to the recommended max room size in hopes of the best efficiency. This is my second Blueair air filter and I’m a fan for life. If you’re unsure of air filters, please be rest assured that it DOES work and DOES make a difference. If you’ve a space that’s a little stale, a little smelly, or needs the air to just be a bit cleaner for your health, you owe it to yourself to check out the Blue Pure 511iMax!

    Excellent, yet Simple

Posted by Lauren Gray on Nov 10th 2024

As someone who owns another Blueair air purifier, I had a good understanding of what to expect going into this. The 511i Max is a solid performer for any air purifier in its class. It's difficult to review products like this in depth when they're so simple and effective, but regardless, this unit has a lot of positive aspects... It's also a pleasant reminder that the best products are the ones that do their job silently and efficiently. The 511i Max is controlled best through the Blueair app. I know some folks might not enjoy that aspect of this product, but I would recommend using it over the on-device controls. The app lets you see how many particles are in the air, you can set the fan speed, the LED light brightness, and also set up automations and timers for your air filter. For a set-it-and-forget-it solution, I recommend leaving the air filter in Auto mode and letting it run whenever it needs to. You can connect your Blueair Blue Max i-series air purifier with Google Assistant or Alexa for voice control. You'll also have the ability to change device settings without opening the Blueair app, which I'm sure is a welcome feature for many smart homes our there. The air filter performs wonderfully. When I first set it up in one of my bedrooms, it was so quiet that I was worried it wasn't running yet. Believe it or not, the device was running on its lowest fan speed. Later in the week when I grilled hamburgers indoors, some smoke and airborne food particles made their way to the bedroom. The 511i Max immediately kicked into full strength filtering and got the smokey food smell out of the room within a few minutes. I can't ask for anything better than that. The adaptive air filtering is top notch, the filters are overall quite long lasting, and having clean air in your home is so good for your health. Personally, I plan to pick up one more of these air filters for the last bedroom in the house. These air filters are wonderful and highly recommended by me.

    Nice small air purifier

Posted by Joshua Rodgers on Nov 7th 2024

Up until three years ago Blueair was a brand I had never heard of until I got the Protect 7470i and it quickly became my main air purifier. I use that one to control the smell of some food my girlfriend cooks from spreading throughout the whole house! The 511 will be my air purifier for my small office to help even more. One of the best features of my 7470 is the ability to control and monitor everything with the app, with the price of the 511 it’s nice that you have the same control as most other inexpensive air purifiers don’t have app control. The 511 comes with a removable grey fabric pre filter and they have three other colors available if you want to customize it for your environment. You also have two other filter choices when replacing the main filter. The standard filter is particle+carbon and the other two are allergenblock and smokeblock. During operation the purifier is very quiet on setting one and relatively quite on two. When it’s running on three (the highest setting), it’s not quiet but it’s far from what I would call loud. I mean no air purifier I have is quite on its highest setting as it is a fan that’s spinning after all! Leaving it in auto mode, 95% of the time it will be running in the lowest setting until it detects odors. If you’re looking for an inexpensive small room air purifier that can be customized, the Blueair 511i is a great choice.

    Fresh air, filtered for you.

Posted by Tina Johnson on Nov 4th 2024

Once, while hiking atop an 800-year-old volcano in Iceland, with a stiff wind blowing from the north Atlantic, I breathed in more fresh air than I thought I might have ever needed for the rest of my life. That might be an overstatement, but conversely, when you are breathing air that’s less than ideal and need a helpful hand in picking the putrid particles from the pleasant, you can rely on the Blue Pure 511i Max to help sort out the sordid air you may be breathing. How does this Swedish design firm achieve this? Surprisingly, not by capturing and ladling breathy ABBA harmonies throughout the room. Nope, it’s more like the magic of HEPASilent™ filtering employed at customer-selected speeds via the simple on-unit buttons, or via the available app. In addition to the three manual speeds, there are automatic and night modes, where the night mode drops the fan speed to a quiet minimum sound and an appropriately dim lighting scheme. The automatic mode seeks to filter out particles in the air to a level of PM 2.5 (Particulate matter of 2.5 microns in size), and is measured by an on-board particle sensor. As the air is being cleaned, the particle sensor measures and reports the perceived air quality to the app which shows five differently-colored display illustrations keyed to the air quality. Keep in mind that this unit was designed for smaller, closed rooms that are less than 193 square feet, or about 14 feet by 14 feet. The app also keeps track of the unit’s efforts in cleaning the air as well as use and filter condition based on time used and air quality filtered. Overall, a useful and well-developed app. I have to admit that I house a degree of skepticism towards the efficiency of products in this market segment. I don’t quite understand how a relatively slow-moving fan barely moving air can be expected to clean all the air in a room. It’s rated at 4.8 air changes per hour, which must be in the fastest speed, but it’s hard to believe that the slower speeds would do very much, other than clean the air in a very small and local subset of the room. The proof of effectiveness is, of course, going to be lodged in the filter and prefilter over time. This Blueair model is designed to capture smaller particles that pertain to elements like smell, smoke, pollen, as well as regular dust particles. The filtering of particulates of PM 2.5 size mentioned in their literature, is achieved by the use of electrostatic, mechanical and/or carbon filtering. There are three different filters that work with this unit. The included one, is the Particle and Carbon, and optionally available are the Allergenblock and the Smokeblock, which are self-evident. Some of the other features that I like about this product are the aesthetic design choices, the easy filter cleaning and/or replacement and the intuitive and well-designed controls. In addition, the outer fabric covering of the air cleaner serves double-duty as a washable pre-filter, as well as a cosmetic chameleon, due to its availability in numerous “Scandinavian inspired” colors at relatively low cost. There is also a subscription plan available that will supply you with your desired filter types at a reduced-price rate and at apt user-defined intervals. I’m also a big fan of included, quality, paper manuals for products, that have clear illustrations and readable type, as they have done here. The fan noise is, of course, proportional to the fan speed, but is quite reasonably quiet at from 19 to 48 dB per Blueair’s specification. If you need a white noise generator to help you get to sleep, this could be a fairly quiet one at the faster speeds. On the cons side of the equation, I’m not a big fan of permanently attaching a wall wart’s cord to the body of a unit. If there are issues with the power supply, it seems like you’re just creating more work or cost by binding them together, not to mention making it a little more awkward to move. I like this product for the performance, price, features and simplicity. In my use of the product, I did not have any particular air quality issues that needed to be addressed, and my daughter’s cat moved out just as this device arrived, so I was unable to test this in the cat’s sleeping area to see if it helped. However, used in our bedroom, it seems to be doing just fine, as I perceive no noticeable air quality issues and a bonus reduction of dust on furniture. As I have no way to verify empirical data on this unit in a short period of time, I will just have to trust that the specifications were drawn from reliable testing and adequate design. If this model doesn’t seem to fit your room size or other air handling requirements, there are many models in the Blueair lineup that probably will. Seems like a good company from previous product’s awards and all I’ve read.
