Best of two Appliances in one!

Posted by Kenneth Miller on Oct 9th 2024

It's an air purifier. It’s a fan. It’s a Dyson. You can’t go wrong with this product. As an HVAC contractor I have reviewed 5 air purifiers, counting this one, and so far I think this is the best of the bunch as well as the bang for the buck. My review will compare it to the others I have reviewed for overall performance, ease of use and how quiet they are at their lowest settings. I will not be reposting specs as they are already listed above in the product’s information and overview. Unboxing, installing the filters and setting up the app were simple and straightforward and I didn’t have any problems. The build quality looked and felt good and the styling is distinctively Dyson. Unlike all the other air purifiers I have reviewed, the Dyson has a remote control. Plus you have the option to park it on top of the unit with it being held in place with magnets. But wait, There’s more! It’s a fan that pulls air from the base and it can rotate on its base to distribute air over a wide area. You can control how far it rotates, from 45 to 350 degrees in the app and remote. It can blow air from the front and the rear. However, rear discharge is about half of what it is from the front. From the front, peak CFM (cubic feet per minute) was 68, 10.4 kph on high and 11 CFM and 1kph when set to rear. I have had the Samsung Bespoke air purifier in our master bedroom since I reviewed it in June. When I got the shipping notice I turned it off until the Dyson arrived. I also have an air quality monitor in the room device called a uHoo that I reviewed 8/2020 that has been monitoring the air in there for over a year. I was able to use it to compare how well each performed and what their readings were compared to the Uhoo’s readings. They were all pretty much the same for PM. The Samsung only displays GAS and reads out a number labeled LV for TOV. The Uhoo reads out in PPB (parts per billion) for TOV and NO as opposed to Dyson using a 1-10 scale. Both show Green, Yellow and Red zones. I lit a candle and watched the numbers climb into the yellow zone, 400 to 2000 PPB for TOV. As for Particulate Matter (PM), they all give a number and color coded scale from green to red. The Dyson goes to purple for “Severe”. Readings stayed in the green for me on all 3 monitoring PM 2.5 with the highest numbers never exceeding 6. All have an “Air Quality” index status and color. Green is good and Red is bad and of course Yellow is always in the middle. One thing I have noticed with all the units that use active carbon is when you first start using them, or replace the active carbon filter, is the “clean” smell you get the first couple of weeks. And the best feature: “Dyson's most advanced filtration system combines a precise, solid-state formaldehyde sensor with a unique catalytic filter that continuously destroys formaldehyde.” The color LCD status display shows almost everything the app does. You can have it display any sensor reading by cycling through them pressing the i button on the remote. It also shows WiFi and filter status. Current AQ (Air Quality) and 24 hr trend. Current fan speed setting, plus settings for rotation, air flow direction and timer. If you stop it on a setting, say temperature, it will stay there. The remote is small and stores on top of the fan but it’s flat and smooth and finding exactly what button you’re pushing in a dark room can be tricky. Say when you’re in bed and don’t want to blind yourself with a bright phone screen to use the app. See photos. I linked it with Alexa but it didn’t work. No matter what I asked Alexa to do, even using the same exact quoted instructions in the app, this was the response I got: “Sorry, the action requested is not supported on this dyson machine. What would you like me to do?” Filters guaranteed for a year. Before reading my comparison of the other air purifiers I have tested, None of them come with a remote control or double as a fan. One particular ability that they all lack is to remove formaldehyde. “Dyson's most advanced filtration system combines a precise, solid-state formaldehyde sensor with a unique catalytic filter that continuously destroys formaldehyde.” Compared to the Samsung - BESPOKE Cube Air Purifier I reviewed, I would say they are equal in performance, monitoring air quality and price. Both are WiFi, have graphic status displays and can show air quality history on their associated apps. The Samsung is the quietest I have ever tested. However, the Samsung is a big cube that pulls air from the back and discharges from the front. It also has a larger footprint. Compared to the Blueair - Classic Series 280i I reviewed, I think they are close in performance also. Equal for noise at the lowest setting. Both are WiFi and their apps show air quality status and history. The Blueair doesn’t have a display, just LED indicator lights on top that show status. No remote. It’s tombstone shaped and pulls air in the back and discharges out the top. Less expensive than the Dyson. Compared to the Filtrete - 310 I reviewed, it’s a more basic and much less expensive unit. All have HEPA filters but the Filtrete lacks the active carbon filtration the units above have, so it cannot perform as well as they do. It is WiFi and can show status and air quality history. One thing that could be a little misleading is the use of the word Cool in the product name. This device doesn’t cool the air. It just moves it. Will it feel cool to you? Yes, if it’s flowing over you at a temperature that’s cooler than you are. The cooler room temperature air is removing heat from a warmer you. When the unit is blowing the air out the front as a fan it will cool you off if you're in front of it. If you want it to just purify the air, then reverse the airflow to the rear. That’s what they mean by cool. Not A/C cool by using a compressor, evaporator, condenser and a refrigerant. So don’t expect it to drop the air temperature by 20 degrees. The Dyson is an excellent performer compared to the others I have used. Mainly the Samsung Bespoke and Blueair. I highly recommend it.

    A Must Have for Allergies!!

Posted by Ashley Anderson on Oct 4th 2024

My coughing from all of the dust and allergens in my house is gone. I cannot believe it. I had an inferior purifier that was just not working so I splurged and got what I considered to be the best. With all of the various models, it was difficult to make a decision, but the Best Buy compare tool made it easy to find the right option for me. I am very pleased with my purchase and definitely recommend to anyone who suffers from allergies or upper respiratory issues.

Dyson makes the BEST Air Purifiers

Posted by Gabriel Garcia on Sep 29th 2024

The Dyson TP09 Purifies, and cools your space quietly and comfortably while effectively removing 99.97% of bacteria, allergens, pollutants, and even Formaldehyde in your home. Assembly is super easy; the filters pop right in then your ready to go. I highly recommend pairing your TP09 with the Dyson Link app, In the app you're able to see the remaining life of your filter and it also states that it's guaranteed to last a full year before needing a replacement. Both within the app, and on the small LCD display on the unit itself, it shows how your air quality is in real time, and what impurities it's detecting while purifying. You also have the the option to link it to Amazon Alexa & Google Home so you can control your Dyson with your voice. The fan mode has 10 levels, all of which feel amazing. Even on the highest setting, it's very quiet. I definitely prefer having it set to oscilate so the air can circulate more. I have found myself waking up in the morning feeling more refreshed, and not congested from my allergies since setting this up in my bedroom. If you are someone like me that suffers from allergies, or you just want to make sure you are breathing in clean air than I highly recommend the Dyson TP09.

With A Name Like Dyson, It Has To Be Good!

Posted by Jeffrey Miller on Sep 17th 2024

I joke a bit with the title of this review, but seriously, what other household appliance manufacturer has the reputation for quality like Dyson? I can't think of any, and the Dyson Purifier Cool Formaldehyde TP09, continues that legacy. What do I like about the Dyson TP09? Here is a list: 1. Easy to set up: Snap in the filters on either side of the base, plug it in, and hit go. Simple. 2. Remote Control: I don't have to get up to change the settings. I'm all for lazy! 3. Quiet: This fan is probably going to get moved upstairs once I feel that it has done its job with all our new furniture in the living room. It is WAY quieter than the unit we have upstairs, with the additional benefit of cooling on those hot nights. 4. Looks Cool: Dyson stuff always looks cool and feels solid, the TP09 is no exception. 5. Informative: The display on the fan gives a TON of data on your air quality and the pollutants in your home. I could watch as the Volatile Organic Compounds level (from our new couch and sofa), dropped as the Dyson worked it's magic. I was surprised that it recorded that there wasn't any Formaldehyde in the air like I assumed there would be. But everything from particulate matter, to humidity, to temperature, and nitrogen dioxide can all be detected and reported out by the TP09. What is the only thing I don't like about the Dyson TP09? Price. That being said, you ARE getting what you paid for with this device. If you just need a fan to move air, just go get a box fan for like $25 but if you want one that can LITERALLY manage the quality of the air you and your family breathe when you are at home, get the Dyson TP09. BTW: I have a separate air quality detector that was able to verify the readouts that the Dyson gave. They were only off on temperature and humidity and that was by a degree and a couple of percentage points.

Best Air Purifier I’ve ever tried, tried a Honeywell 1st. All it seemed to do was blow the smoke around the room. Love the way this one removes the bad air in the room and then slows itself down and up again when needed.
