2 Great Gift. Bad Personal Buy
Posted by Christine Black on Dec 12th 2024
I really think this is a great idea for drinkers of warm to hot beverages. Even though this product came to be becaause the inventer couldn't eat hie scrambled eggs quick enough. Brilliant man, and kudos to him for this. However, I have a problem with the fact that this coffe mug is only 6 ounces and it cost a bill. I understand that this is new technology and new tech isn't cheap. But again, it's only 6 ounces. With that being said, the tech is pretty sweet. I am able to kep my coffee or tea at the temperaature I want for long eriods of time. By that, I mean, the mug alone, lasts up to an hour and a half after being fully charged on the coaster. And infinitely as long as it's on the coaster. The controls are on the Ember app and is relatively simle to use, soo that's great. You can change the color of the battery light to your favorite color or to match your dacor. Again, that's a cool thing. In the box you have everthing you need to start drinking your beverage. But you have to charge it completely the first time. And that's goingg to take a few hours. But once that's done and your app is up and running. Pair it up to your mug and you're on your way.The problem as i said, is the mug is only 6 ounces. And most people I know let's their coffe to cool a little before drinking it. The temperature stats at 135 degrees and goes up. The only time this could be handy, to me, is when it's cold inside thee office, because that bring's up my second point. There is not lid, so there isn't any protection from fallind objects. Meaning this can't be useed outside. And again, 6 ounces. That shouldn't last long at all and certainly not long enough to warrant keeping your drink hot. So I feel that this is not a good purchase. It's great idea and good start. This would make for a neat Father's Day gift, because I'm pretty sure Dad doesn't have anything like this. But even as a gift, it's simply over-priced. I can't recommend this to anyone, really. There's no one that I know that could benifit from this mug. In the end, I feel you should pass on this unless you absolutely must give a gift that Dad doesn't have. 6 OZs ain't worth $100.

4 Cup that keeps your drink warm for hours
Posted by Annette Simpson on Dec 5th 2024
The Ember mug does what it’s meant to do well, but requires some retraining and keeping your cup in one location (not that you couldn’t travel with it, just too cumbersome for me). And it’s pricey for being a cup. But if you are one to sip and enjoy a hot beverage over a longer period of time, this is something you should look at. I haven’t seen anything else like it, so if you’re reading this and thinking about getting it, you’re likely already intrigued. But there are a few practical things I think one should know when considering purchasing this product. IN THE BOX Inside you’ll find the Ember cup, a charging “saucer,” instruction book, and wall charger. The charging cable is proprietary, at least, it’s not USB-C, so you have to use the included charger. The cable should be long enough for most people but with my setup in my office, I wish I had about an extra foot. SETTING UP There are some stickers on the cup that tell you to charge fully before using. First thing, plug in the saucer to the wall outlet, then place the cup on the saucer to charge. The charging is similar to any wireless charging setup; there’s gold rings on the bottom of the cup that make contact with two gold pins in the saucer that charges it. There’s a light on the bottom of the cup that blinks red when it’s charging and glows green when it’s fully charged. From there you download the Ember app. I’m one to loathe having dozens of unnecessary apps on my phone (at least apps I don’t use frequently) but nonetheless, this is an app you arguable don’t need to access once you set it up. Once the app is downloaded and cup is charged, you hold the power button on the bottom of it until the aforementioned light blinks blue to tell you it’s in pairing mode. From there, the app should find it pretty quickly. Once it’s connected, you’re all set up. APP The app is basic, there’s not much for it to do. You can slide the temperature bar on the app which tells the cup what to hold the temperature of your beverage at. There’s also presets for tea, coffee, etc. You can even make your own presets. I noticed a timer for steeping your tea, but I didn’t use that (I always “eye ball” the length of time to steep my tea). The temperature differences between the coffee preset and green/black teas are just several degrees. To me personally, that temperature difference doesn’t warrant me opening the app each and every time I pour something in it. The app will give you a notification when your drink hits the optimum level (you can disable this). USE Pretty self explanatory, as long as your cup is charged, once you pour liquid in it, it will begin warming it up to the right temperature. The light blinks white on the cup to let you know it’s not quite to the optimal temperature yet and it’s working on it. It can detect if it’s empty and if so, it won't heat up. The cup itself gets slightly warm on the outside, but never does it feel too hot to hold. It’s pretty insulated. The battery purportedly lasts for 2.5 hours. I found this to be pretty accurate. I’ve left the cup off the charging saucer for a few days and used it without issue. But I keep the saucer near my desk (I use mine at work) so I’m always able to simply leave it on the charger. By the time I bring my thermos of coffee into work and pour it into the cup, the temperature is usually in the 118 degrees range. The preset for coffee temp is about 134. I’d say it takes about 5 minutes to bring the temperature up 15-16 degrees which isn’t too bad. It’s not as if I don’t drink it as it’s heating up. As someone who brings in what seems to be a half cup of coffee to work, I really do enjoy the ability to keep it hot all morning. Otherwise, my last sips are almost cold coffee. So for me, this Ember cup is nice to have. As I said, you don’t really need to open the app when you use the cup outside of the initial setup. So I don’t want to give the impression you’re constantly having to open your phone and the app to use the cup. QUIRKS A couple things to mention during my experience. It’s not necessarily advertised in the box, but if you Google search it you can easily figure this out, but it does not heat cold liquids to hot. So don’t expect to pour in a cold cup of coffee or tea and expect it to heat it. If the liquid is too cold, the cup will think it’s empty. Think of this cup as simply maintaining hot temperatures. I don’t know the effective range of the temperatures it will maintain, but something to keep in mind. The charging saucer can be finicky. There’s two gold pins at the bottom. There’s a sticker warning to not let it get wet. Easy enough. But I found the cup failing to charge at one point (after only having it a few days). I reset the cup and repaired it and it didn’t work. But at some point, it started charging again. I don’t know what happened, but it was a tad bit concerning to me when thinking about the device’s longevity. CONCLUSIONS Other than my last two observations, I must say, this cup works as intended and works well. Of course this particular model only holds 6 ounces, so it’s a bit small. But that doesn’t bother me. It’s clearly a luxury item, but if drinking hot liquids over a long period of time (when they would otherwise get cold) is important to you, I would definitely recommend this Ember cup - or any of them for that matter.

5 Keep Your Coffee the Perfect Temp!!!
Posted by Sylvia Elliott on Dec 2nd 2024
From your first sip to your last, the Ember Smart Mug will keep any drink of your choice the perfect temperature. The Ember smart mug is able to maintain the temperature of your favorite hot beverage for about 1.5 hours on the built-in battery and you can even run it all day with the provided charging coaster. This smart mug holds about 6 oz. of favorite hot beverage so it is ideal for espresso, cappuccinos, or even coffee. To start off you will need to download the Ember app and pair your mug to your phone. The pairing process is very simple as well. You will need to hold down the power button on the bottom of the mug until it starts flash blue and then your phone should be able to pick it up and that is pretty much it. At this point you can start using your smart mug. The application allows you to do a little bit of customization such as choosing the color of your light and adjust the brightness. You will need to use the application to adjust the temperature of your beverage anywhere between 120 to 145 degrees and will send your phone a notification once the temperature has been reached and provide you with the battery status. One thing to keep in mind is that ***THIS PRODUCT IS NOT DISHWASHER SAFE***, this is handwash only and is submersible up to under one meter of water but I would not recommend that you try that. Overall, I am very impressed with the Ember Smart Mug. I have been using this now for a few days and I honestly have no complaints, it’s a solid product, it does what it is made to do all while looking amazing in a matte black finish.

5 The perfect cup to keep your coffee hot!
Posted by Sarah Rivera MD on Nov 27th 2024
I don't see a better way to keep your coffee hot like with this Ember cup. This 6oz cup will keep your coffee at your desired temperature for a long time. This cup will not only keep your coffee hot, you can actually adjust how hot you want it using the Ember app. After using it a couple of times this cup is smart enough to remember your desired temperature so you don't have to keep opening the app every time. This cup is rechargeable. I will say it will last about an hour total. I turn the cup on for about 15 minutes per drink a few times a day, three to four times to be exact. The cup is very nicely constructed and feels just like any other regular cup in the hand. Even though it has a rechargeable battery and electronics components it doesn't feel much heavier. Setting it up with the app was super easy and the best part is that it doesn't require you to create an account. At the time I wrote this review this cup was not listed in the app, so I used the Ember mug to configure it. It worked perfectly. Overall if you love to drink your coffee hot and want to keep it hot until you finish it, this cup will be a right choice.

5 Cool Cup! Well, no... HOT CUP!
Posted by David Thompson on Nov 27th 2024
To be honest, the wife and I use this more than either of us thought we would. Both being morning coffee drinkers (she prefers coffee, I prefer Espresso), we have an every-other-day custody agreement with visiting rights being granted on an as needed basis for the occasional evening/weekend use. Unpacking was simple. The box was a quick Benchmade knife slice to remove outer film, then a couple simple steps to get into hardware. Inside you'll find the cup (of course), the charger, power supply, user guide and an Ember "sticker/decal" deck in case you like it so much you want to brag? Set up was as expected, super simple. Plug in the charger to base, plug other end into wall outlet and place cup on charger. We set it up, ran about 3 hours or so of errands and it was fully charged when we returned. The "power" button (also the button to connect to app) is on the bottom center of cup. The app is expectedly simple. You can set the default preferred temperature, status and set the default LED color. She wanted pink, I wanted blue so we settled on purple. We both like our drinks hot so we agreed to default at 145. Battery life when not on charger is listed at 1.5 hours. The longest I tested was maybe 30 minutes and it was still at 145. It is also advertised as keeping hot all day long while on charger but I cannot confirm/deny since I never tested ***IMPORTANT NOTE???**** *Hand-wash only *Make sure charge points on cup bottom are thoroughly dry BEFORE placing on charger *Cup is NOT microwavable End of the day, cool cup and a handy gadget. I would (and have) recommended to friends.

5 Same Great Features in a New Smaller Size
Posted by Patricia West on Nov 19th 2024
TLDR: (that’s Too Long, Didn’t Read) If the size of this smaller Ember Cup meets your hot-beverage needs, you’ll find all of the awesome features of the larger Ember Mugs but in a smaller handle-less size. Pros: * Attractive design without a handle. * Easy to use. * Comfortable to hold. * Good enough battery life for between-saucer drinking. * Same great features and app as the larger Ember Mugs. Cons: * Same issue as all other Ember Mugs that the bottom should be air-dried before being placed back on the charging saucer. Details - Setup: Plug the charging saucer in with the provided AC adapter. I’m not sure why they didn’t go with a USB-based charger, but everything works, so it’s not really and issue. If the Cup isn’t already on, press center of the bottom to turn it on and put it in pairing mode. Then place the Cup on the saucer to charge up while you set up the app. After installing the Ember app, just open the app and tap “Pair new device.” The app will find and pair with the cup so you don’t need to first pair via Bluetooth (at least on a current iPhone. Every Ember Mug has a status LED on the front and you can choose that light’s color to more easily identify your Mug from someone else’s of the same model. The app will tell you the Cup’s battery level and whether there are any firmware updates (yeah, for your coffee cup!). If you have an Apple Watch, you can also install the free app for that and see your Cup’s current temperature without reaching for your phone. That’s basically it for setup. You can also choose favorite settings for your hot beverages; like 135F for Coffee or 150F for Tea, etc… Details - Typical Usage: While there is added flexibility and customization when connected to the phone or watch app, you can also easily use the Cup without the app. Pour your favorite hot beverage and the Cup will turn on and keep it at 135F by default. Take it off the charging coaster for up to 90 minutes to keep your drink hot while you roam. When you’ve savored your last sip, the Cup turns off the heater. You can buy extra charging coasters to have them available wherever you typically park yourself and drink, but the Cup is completely compatible with the saucers for all other Ember Mugs. When you’ve finished your drink, just hand wash it in the sink. It’s completely waterproof for hand washing but I wouldn’t put it in the dishwasher. One thing to note is that the bottom of the Cup (and the Mugs) has metal contacts for the charging and a rubber non-slip pad. While this all water-safe, there are nooks and crannies that always seem to trap a bit of water no matter how well you dry it. If you put your freshly washed and dried Cup on the charging coaster right away, some of that trapped water will leach out and moisten the charging area leaving a wet ring between the Cup and the Saucer. This won’t cause damage, but I’ve gotten in the habit of placing my washed mug upside-down on the coaster for an hour or so to air-dry before flipping it right-side up to charge again. As you can see from the attached photos, this new Ember Cup is basically a smaller version of their other Mugs. It holds about 6oz whereas the “regular” Mug holds 10oz and the larger Mug holds 14oz. There is no handle on this one, but I like the feeling of grabbing the cup by the sides. Even with freshly-brewed coffee or tea inside, the outside is comfortable to hold, so no worries about the lack of a handle. Conclusion: This Ember Cup has everything that’s great about the larger Mugs but in a smaller size and without a handle. The same great apps, the same great features, and a fresh handle-less design let you savor your favorite smaller hot beverage for as long as you want.

3 Quality, performance, select the right size!
Posted by Jared Rich on Nov 15th 2024
I'm a coffee and tea drinker. Though I've scaled back my volume, I am cherish my one or two cups of meticulously made caffeine beverages each day. For me, these are meant to be warm-to-hot for optimal flavor. Life gets in the way, and it's a heartbreak when I return to my cup and it's cold. I was really excited to obtain an Ember after all this time. It's a beautiful product. Elegant, with a nice weight and shape. It, like any good beverage container should, feels really nice in your hands. The charging base is simple and elegant. I'd like it to truly function as a saucer, but you are discouraged from letting it get wet. I'm guessing that's due to the charging contacts being exposed. Perhaps induction will be in the next version... I'll get my other gripe out of the way - if you drink a contemporary amount of coffee, that is, more than 6 ounces, this is too small and questionable in value. You probably get that first 4-6 ounces down fast and the value is keeping the other 4, 6, 8 warm. That said, if you want to precisely control the temperature of a coffee or tea concoction (latte, espresso, macchiato), this is the product for you. Cool things - there's an app that tells you if your cup is empty, and it let's you set that precise temperature for your liquid pleasure. You can create presets for different types of drinks. Say you like your black tea at 135 degrees, and your latte at 145, just create it once and select it later. Nice. The app advises of the charging level from 0-100% and it can send you notifications as well. Minor bonus, you can select the color of the status LED. Finally, the app, if you elect to do so, will provide the approximate caffeine intake and share it with the Apple Health App. I'm a data geek, so I love this. Revisiting the review title, I should have selected a larger model to enjoy the benefits appropriate to my intake levels. Otherwise, this is a nice product.

5 Excellent choice for those who like espresso drink
Posted by David Villarreal on Nov 7th 2024
This is my third Ember mug purchase. Last Christmas got 14 oz mugs for both my wife and myself. I keep mine at work at use it every day. It works exactly as promised, and I know I can leave my coffee alone for a little while and it will still be as hot as I like it when I return. If you can get that mug at a discount price, it's really worth it. Regarding this Ember cup, I make espresso based drinks, primarily Flat whites, every morning when I'm home. I tend to take a little time drinking this, and lately have become a little frustrated that the drink gets a little too cold by the time I get to the end. This little baby solves that problem completely. If you're going to use this for a cup of coffee, definitely go with a bigger size. However, if you like espresso, latte, cappuccino, etc. don't hesitate. Just get this. You can pour latte art and have your same drink experience. I especially like that you can set the temp a little lower as that is perfect for me. Espresso drinkers, you'll be glad to have this mug.

5 Great product

Great product! Keeps my coffee hot and fresh, and very easy to control with the app!
