    Unappreciated workhorse of the kitchen

Posted by Margaret Li on Dec 12th 2024

Gets the job done. Surprisingly, there’s no tricks here, there’s no separate app to download to control your garbage disposal or adding it to your Wi-Fi network, this is Best Buy selling a “dumb” (i.e. non-smart home device) but necessary, kitchen appliance. I’m a novice to garbage disposals so it’s tough for me to comment on how much horsepower is enough, but I have a family of four and I can say this Frigidaire does the job. IN THE BOX Obviously you’ll get the disposal in the box. It’s pretty big, but not any bigger than other disposals of similar power - it’s just something I never really look at since it’s under the sink. There’s a cord that comes with it, which requires you to plug it in. IMPORTANT, if you don’t have an outlet under your sink, you might want to look elsewhere. The cord is 3 feet which should be plenty long. You also get a drain tube. It comes with a sink flange, but you might not need it depending on your situation (i.e. if you’re just attaching the motor to the existing flange. INSTALLATION This is by no means an instructional review on how to install a garbage disposal. And there’s nothing particularly special re the install re this disposal compared to others. So, I’m just speaking to those DIYers out there who need a disposal and are looking to install it themselves. I’m no plumber, but I know my way around most tools, and I found the installation process to be very easy. I’ll note I didn’t replace the flange (which requires plumbers putty) I simply used the existing one and exchanged the motors. I was done in relative short order. But even if you are replacing the hole thing, or putting a disposal on a new sink, all you need are a few tools and a couple of YouTube videos and you should be able to get the job done. Plus, the instruction manual is pretty handy in this regard. PERFORMANCE There’s really not much to say about garbage disposals. The biggest thing is, do they work in grinding up food and are they loud? This ¾ HP model is good at grinding food and it’s not terribly loud. Sometimes when first turning it on I hear it kind of wind up, but it’s surprisingly quiet compared to my old disposal. I never found the volume of a disposal to be much of an issue; I’m rarely talking to someone while cleaning the dishes and disposing of food. But maybe you don’t want to wake up the family cleaning later in the evening. I obviously can’t give you a decibel rating, but just anecdotally, I think it’s pretty quiet for what it is. I haven’t had it long enough to drop foreign (i.e. non food items) in it. So I can’t speak to its durability of having metal, for example, in it. The box claims it has a magnetic ring built in to capture “most metal” before it goes into the drain. I haven’t tested this per se, and I don’t recall dropping any metal into it, so I can’t really test the veracity of this claim, but it seems like a nice idea. I’m guessing they’re thinking of rings coming off one’s hands. CONCLUSION A garbage disposal is the football lineman of the kitchen. They do all the grunt work and rarely get the praise, only complaints when not working well. It’s also not flashy, but I’d argue, an important piece of your kitchen. In that respect, this model handles most of what you throw at it. I’ve cleaned off dishes for a family of 4 with food on the plates and never worried that it wasn’t up to the task. And while I haven’t tested the other models, I think if you have the space, going for the middle of the road option (middle of the road in terms of horsepower) is a good balance of power/price/performance.

Holy Cow. SUPER QUIET & Super powerful.

Posted by Bradley Chavez on Dec 3rd 2024

I thought all garbage disposals we're made the same. I have just bought cheap disposals and just used them till they died. After installing this Frigidaire disposal I was really shocked.... We'll get to that in a bit. Let's talk about installation. So WARNING, you need to make sure this disposal fits your current sink drain line and other equipment below. I first wanted to install this in the main part of my house but found that the upper bell conflicts with the 1-1/2 inch connection that I specially built because of my waste line for my Reverse Osmosis system. Make sure you measure your existing sink and piping and other equipment first prior to buying. Luckily I have a second sink that was wide opened to install and test it out. I swapped out the existing and did it in 5 minutes. The disposal comes with all the needed cam system to attach to the sink and best of all it comes with a power cord. It also came with a magnetic ring to use on the cam so that it will help prevent utensils from falling in. Neat but I am not sure if the magnet is strong enough. It did catch a spoon a little as I intentionally dropped a utensil near the opening. Operation was where I was really shocked and surprised. This this is SUPER SUPER QUIET! Holy cow... At first switch a small kick but after that it was stealth in sound... It is also super strong. I threw a bunch of stuff down it and it made mince meat out of everything I fed it... I am sold on this product. Not all disposals are made the same. Well worth the investment. Good job Frigidaire. I would recommend this product.

Powerful & quiet. Easy to install.

Posted by Justin Macdonald on Dec 1st 2024

Frigidaire designed a disposal that met my expectations. Easy to install, plug in cord, (I added an outlet to the dishwasher circuit box of my 1st home in 1981) making jams safer to clear by unplugging the disposal, sound deadening surrounding the impeller housing for quiet operation, easy to find reset circuit breaker for overload protection right on the front, powerful 3/4 H.P. motor for effortless grinding operation from the sharp impeller, sink stopper and a NEW feature, a magnetic silverware ring surrounding the top neck of the disposal's inlet funnel. A real safety feature when you consider how likely that can happen in one's daily use. A laundry list of cool features and notice what was first? Ease of installation. For me, that is a must. The design was just what I hoped for. A large flathead screw driver acting like a pry bar, a #2 Phillips screw driver, and a 5/16" nut driver for the dishwasher hose screw clamp. I followed the included booklet instructions. First removed the old unit (working great since August 2006). Then I cleaned up everything I could see, sink flange top and bottom, dishwasher hose connector and waste pipe that attaches to the black disposal's outlet pipe. Since I was connecting the dishwasher, I remembered to POP OUT the disposal port PLUG. Didn't need to deal with that mistake ever again! The shroud around the unit's body makes it a tad tough to connect the dishwasher hose, but a visual check before tightening the screw clamp confirmed it was securely in place. The unit hangs from a well-made twist on housing clamp. My total install time including checking for leaks was about 90-minutes. The unit is so quiet. Best of all, a ten (10) year warranty. I likely will never need it. Remember to unplug the disposal when you ever need to clear a jam. It will happen someday, so stay safe.

    3/4HP is where it's at

Posted by Mario Gutierrez on Nov 16th 2024

The best garbage disposal I've ever purchased. 3/4HP is way better than the 1/2HP. I will never go back to 1/2HP. It's much stronger, cuts faster and is quieter.

Suddenly water leaks from my old garbage disposal and have to change it immediately. After deep research I found this one, because of its saying made with stainless steel and lifetime warranty, also the size is pretty good to match my old one garbage disposal, its excellent working and easy to install. I did install it My self and pretty easy works perfect.

    Quiet Easy installation

Posted by Kevin Maldonado on Nov 14th 2024

Quiet Easy install - just be sure you have an outlet for it to plug into under the sink. Only thing that I were ours change is the rubber sink stopper has very small holes so water flows too slow and you have to hold it open to get the food to pass through it. Purchased a “Super Stuffer” and problem solved.

Great Upgrade From my Previous Disposal

Posted by Brandy Clark on Nov 10th 2024

Bought this unit to replace my leaking Insinkerator. Upgraded from 1/3 hp to 3/4 hp. Major improvement, easy to install. I feel it's a much better value than Insinkerator. The Frigidaire is equally quiet, the tone is more pleasant.
