    AVOID UNDER CABINET MOUNTING

Posted by Brian James on Dec 12th 2024

This unit was installed with the under-cabinet option 14 months ago. We're a semi-retired household; the unit has light daily use. One morning, after leaving the mw door slightly ajar to air out the chamber, the door swung open, which it hadn't done before. I noticed there was a gap between the bottom of the kitchen cabinet and the top of the microwave frame. My husband attempted to tighten the loosest mounting screw. The screw engaged and tightened temporarily, but the other screws became looser. When he tightened the next screw, the first one became loose again. In a few minutes, the whole microwave 'dismounted' from the kitchen cabinet, and we lowered it to the counter below. After a trip to the hardware store for different screws, and a visit from our contractor we concluded the screws that came with the mounting kit were slightly smaller in diameter with more threads than the threaded hole in the mw frame. The screws provided in the mounting kit still engaged the threaded hole in the mw when positioned straight up and down, but did not hold. With a little jiggling, we removed them easily. As the unit was purchased to replace a 20-yr-old 'same' model during a remodel, it was now out of warranty. This unit has less power than the earlier model. The push-button to open the door takes more force than most similar items. Its overall performance is average. GE customer care said they could send a repair technician for a charge starting at $105. In further calls to GE Parts and Returns Departments I found that the 'mounting kit' is regarded as an accessory; a GE warranty does not cover accessories. In addition, GE installation services are not available for this model, and on p 23 of its installation directions, GE is not responsible for improper installation. I explained this was a safety issue. The unit was properly installed with the kit recommended on a Best Buy website. GE said their company is not responsible for the mounting kit. Nice-looking microwave

Posted by Michael Richardson on Nov 26th 2024

? I replaced a 16-year-old GE microwave. I think I got the updated version of the one I had. I’ve only had it for one day, so I can’t really comment on the quality. It is quiet and detective. What I am concerned about is that several reviewers have complained about receiving a dented microwave. Mine is also dented. I’m not convinced that the box was a new, unopened box, or that the microwave was “new“. I had a difficult time installing it, and the dent is on the rear, so I’m not going to return it, but I wonder about so many people receiving “new“ products that were dented. ?

    Small, GE built-in microwave

Good: very quiet operation, okay for re-heating food, nice looking. Bad: expensive for what you get, under powered (cannot even cook popcorn)

    Love it!

Posted by Amanda Ray on Nov 20th 2024

Sleek modern design, quiet quality performance. Spent $1,200 on a Kitchen Aid brand that didn’t fit the new cabinet space so “down graded” to GE Profile. Love love love the unit and the $1k savings. Many cook features, very quiet, and fast / powerful for 800 watts. Love it! Buy it! You won’t regret it.

Mount a shelf instead of this built-in

Posted by Jo Miller on Oct 29th 2024

Purchased as direct replacement for a 2004 GE Spacemaker II (JEM25BF001), 1200W, 11" turntable, that fit perfectly in the 24" space between cabinets. This model's door binds in a 24" space and requires 24-1/8" to open the door. Also discovered mounting holes requires a new mounting kit (extra $100) and more holes in my cabinet. This model (PEM31DFBB), 800W, 9" turntable is overpriced just because it is a built-in. Luckily I was able to return it. Bought a stainless steel shelf and better microwave instead (Sharp 1000W).

    Microwave is good

Posted by Richard Brown on Oct 25th 2024

I like it. It’s very easy to use. I think the only small issue I had was the dimensions as stated were incorrect and therefore I had to Jerry rig the opening in my cabinet.
