5 Great appliance

Plenty of power for household use. Thin profile takes up less space under the counter and it's very quiet, almost silent in operation. Very satisfied with purchase.

5 Quite worth it
Posted by Mr. Ronald Hobbs on Oct 9th 2024
I made a good choice. Its really quite. Its just me and my daughter and shes not old enough to use it. I only crush food residue so this one was perfect for me. It looks sleek. Much better than the old one. The size up is for larger families and it is huge.

5 Small but mighty
Posted by Cynthia Davis on Oct 7th 2024
This model is very small but manages to dice medium amounts of produce, etc. without a problem. The feature I like the most is that it is quiet and doesn't shake the whole counter/sink when its running.

4 Super-quiet & easy install even w/permanent wiring
Posted by Jeremy Perkins on Oct 4th 2024
It's hard to get really excited about a garbage disposal--it either installs easily or it doesn't, and it either works well or it doesn't. In this case, the Smart Choice disposal ticks both boxes at a more wallet-friendly price than a lot of the competition. Our previous 1/3 HP disposal was installed just a few months before we moved into the house and was starting to sound a bit raggedy in action. We gave the Smart Choice a serious look due to the slight bump in horsepower and seemingly simple installation effort. In our case, the old disposal was mounted to the sink using a threaded black plastic mounting ring rather than the sturdier metal ring-mount collar included here. Due to the different mounts, I was a bit hesitant at first to proceed on my own after my plumber cancelled the installation appointment (for the second time); but the manual actually included a full section on removal of the old unit that included some "And if you happen to have a mount that looks like this..." instructions, so I forged ahead DIY-style and saved myself quite a bit of additional expense. I have replaced a few toilet assemblies in my day, but I'm not what you would call very experienced when it comes to more complicated plumbing issues. In our case, however, this new unit bolted right into place using the existing discharge pipe and dishwasher hose connections (don't forget to remove the little dishwasher outlet stopper on the disposal!); an additional elbow connector and discharge flange are included in the box if you don't want to reuse your existing fittings. The only real trick for us was the electrical connection. Our old disposal was hardwired to the wall switch and we have no outlet under the sink. Not to worry--not only does the manual devote an entire page (with pictures!) to permanent wire installation steps, but the disposal's internal wiring uses preinstalled electrical twist connectors so you don't have to worry about anything complicated like crimping spade connectors onto the electrical leads after removing the existing 3-prong plug & cable. Those of you blessed with an under-sink outlet should take note that the grounded electrical cable is only about 33" long. But even with our slightly more complex installation requirements, I had the new disposal up and running in about 30 minutes. Like another reviewer's experience right here at Best Buy, my first unit arrived with a crack in the lower plastic shell and a gap between the upper and lower housings due to a slight misalignment when the disposal was assembled. This appears to be a minor manufacturing/assembly issue that is probably not all that common, but given that someone else experienced the exact same defect I did, I would advise you to examine your disposal closely before installation. So long as the plastic housing isn't damaged outright, any minor alignment gaps are simple enough to correct just by removing and re-seating the three easy-to-access housing screws. In use, the Electrolux Smart Choice disposal is surprisingly quiet (much more so than our older 1/3 HP unit), seems to chew through food very quickly, and the slim profile is great for reclaiming some extra space under the sink. The removable rubber splash guard is also very nice for cleaning/retrieving errant items dropped into the disposal. There is also a HUGE cutout in the front of the shell for the electrical reset button--we had to install our disposal sideways so having this cutout made it easy for me to find the button without having to blindly fumble around the bottom of the unit. If your food disposal needs don't require something as powerful as a wood chipper--just a simple, quiet, and capable unit to grind up your food waste--the Smart Choice disposal is a relatively economical option that shouldn't take a seasoned professional to get up and running.

1 Horrible product and service!!!
Posted by Caleb Miller on Sep 24th 2024
I purchased a brand new garbage disposal and noticed it was leaking within three weeks of my paying for the appliance and installation. Best Buy send the same technician out who installed the garbage disposal and it was confirmed that it was defective which means it was defective when it was first installed. I contacted Best Buy customer service and they refuse to replace my garbage disposal due to under my sink has been leaking with water from the defective disposal that was installed. I spend 7 hours on the phone trying to get the correct manufacturer number to see if they can replace the item and every number Best Buy customer service provided was incorrect! I am still waiting on a manager to return my call 5 days later to resolve the issue and have yet to return my call! I have purchased several appliances throughout this year and wouldn’t recommend anyone to buy anything from them. My next step is the Better Business Bureau.

5 Compact and the price it right
Posted by Teresa Black on Sep 19th 2024
I was wary about buying a brand that I hadn't heard of before, but I took the risk. What I love most about this disposal is how compact it — there is a lot more room below my sink now. So far it's working great, too!

4 Good disposal for the money
Posted by Jonathan Glover on Sep 18th 2024
Good disposal for the money. Fairly quiet. Connected directly to existing mount from orher disposal from different manufacturer. The rubber insert that gets put in the sink drain hardly lets water through so that had to be cut a little.

5 Grind it out

We got this garbage disposal installed for almost a year now. It has been working fine, not too loud. We have not run into any problems with any foods yet.

5 Quiet and effective upgrade!
Posted by Charles Johnson on Sep 6th 2024
So far the Frigidaire Smart Choice Garbage disposal seems to be a good choice. It is much quieter than the old model of a different mainstream brand it replaced. So much so it made me wonder if it was powerful enough. However, it has done what it is supposed to do with ease up to this point. I have yet to put any real tuff stuff through it like meat with tendons and ligaments but the things I have put through it fruit and vegetables and leftovers it disappears them rather quickly without struggling. It seems like the blade system is very effective at cutting up stuff. I do not foresee there being any issues I have just never had a garbage disposal that is so quiet so that throws me off. I will have to warn you about the installation of this unit if you are replacing an old hard-wired model. The wiring on my old unit was much different. The old unit had one hot romex wire coming into the unit and one coming out that went to the light switch with the hot (black wire) hooked up to the hot screw on the light switch and the white neutral hooked up to the neutral screw with no ground attached. In order to install this new plug-in type I had to run an additional wire to the light switch because the switch has to have two hot wires to run interference on the hot wire going to the wall socket or plug. Running an extra wire in my case meant removing a drawer and drilling another hole inside my kitchen cabinet in the back going into the area that our oven resides. This also meant that I had to remove the nails that were holding in the metal box in the wall so I could see inside of the area by my oven to fish out the new wire which was not very easy. However, with a good headlamp and the right fishing tools it can be done pretty handily. I have the proper equipment because I am a Handyman with a lot of different tools for difficult task such as fishing a wire from behind the same wall it went into about 3 feet over to the hole where I took the light switch box out. Additionally, I updated the wiring situation to make it suitable for wet conditions by installing a waterproof junction box and a waterproof set of boxes for the wall plugs by using a flush mount box for the receptacles and a box with an opening clear cover for to keep a possible spray from a water leak from being able to spray the sockets. It was a lot of work but in the end I think it was really worth it to have a much safer setup and to be able to just plug in a new disposal when needed instead of hardwiring one. Another thing I did was run two different romex wires to the receptacle (plug) and break out the center tab. This gave us another hot plug separate from the plug for the disposal for any future upgrades like perhaps a smart faucet or any other modern sink appliance that may require power. You could even put a smart LED light under your sink and tell your device of choice to turn it on or off hands-free. This would give you the ability to easily see under your sink to retrieve whatever cleaning supplies you may want to retrieve. In the end I am very happy that I got the Frigidaire Smart Choice ½ horsepower garbage disposal. It gave me a good reason to upgrade the wiring situation under my sink and make it much safer and free from having to worry about something shorting out. I am still amazed by how quiet it is yet still goes through things with ease. I appreciate that they worked to modernize the garbage disposal and make it much more enjoyable to use. I have always had old models that were very loud and interfered with any other sounds you were trying to hear whether that be the TV a conversation or a video you are watching. I can actually hear my Bluetooth headset with this thing on. Not only that people in the living room can hear the TV with it on. If you are still running an old noisy disposal I would seriously consider upgrading to this ½ horsepower Smart Choice Garbage disposal. Your life will be more stress-free and enjoyable with this new quieter and more efficient design.
