1 EER is NOT what product specs on website claims
Posted by Edward Wood on Nov 8th 2024
Chose this one because other models I was looking at had EER of 10; this one was supposed to be just over 11. Turns out it's an 8.6. Just got it unpacked so I haven't given it a fair test of function, but product misinformation is a major issue in my opinion. :/

5 a win - win for me
Posted by Blake Thompson on Oct 30th 2024
look at my photo, i have 2 of these, the new one from BB is hooked up and working just a good as my first one that is 3 year old and still working great .. it cools my bedroom and can the whole 2nd floor of 4 bedrooms, you need to add a fan to push the cold out of the one bedroom ,, i plan to rotate use of 2 each summer now ,, so as to reduce wear and tear to each to last as long as it can .. here are tips if you look at my photo and read further, i made a stand so the ducts are as short as possible,, for best efficiency ,, tip #2 get 1/4" foam insulation and wrap around the hot exhaust tube with duct tape to hold,, tip#3 i made a wood window mount to screw and silicone the outlet connectors for a solid mount to easily install and remove.. tip#4 -drill a hole in stand for tubing to a pan under it for overflow water , but so far each summer ,, none has dripped out ,, since all condensing water is blown out the exhaust tube. Tip#5 before storing after summer ,, unit backwards to make sure the standing water inside is dumped out easily with the stand ,,

5 Powerful

Great ac... only 2 issues, the dual hoses are pretty big in diameter, and the blower itself doesn't have much control of where you want the air to flow... other than that, this really cools the place down! Pics showing custom window insert I had made for hoses..

5 Stay cool and inexpensive without huge solar cost
Posted by Evan Ross on Oct 20th 2024
I bought the unit because I can shut off 350 sq ft (kitchen/family room) of my 2400 sq ft house and efficiently (11.2 EER rating) cool a smaller living area for much less money. Using a radiant heater in the same area this winter saved me $100/month; AC should be even better-and much more sensible than solar panels. Installation is simple. Even though temperatures here get to 100+° in the summer, we get a Delta breeze most nights in the 50’s and 60’s and use our Airscape whole house fan overnight and into the mornings to cool entire house.

4 Works well, but is a bit loud.
Posted by Gerald Hart on Oct 17th 2024
Reviewing the Whynter ARC-14S, portable AC unit. Pros: It works well for the room size (~12'x15'x10'). Very powerful and cools effectively. Easy to wheel around. Intake and Exhaust hoses extend quite a bit, so you have a little flexibility in placing the unit. Maintained temperature well. Cons: It's pretty loud. The light from the control panel is very bright and you cannot turn it (the panel) off. It is a big unit, and very heavy if you need to lift it. Comments: It's a lot taller than I expected for some reason. The thing to remember is that it's a portable unit. By default, they're not as good as a window unit, ductless split, or other permanently installed unit. However, the advantage is that they're portable. You can move them around, use it just for those few hot days, or move it to where you may need some additional cooling. I got this to cool my bedroom at night so I can sleep more comfortably. My HOA doesn't allow window units, and I'd rather not run the central AC to cool the whole house when all I need it for is my bedroom at night. It's a bit large for the size of my room, however, the recommended room sizes tend to be optimistic. (e.g. a unit that says it's for 500 sq.ft. is not going to handle that much space except under optimum conditions). It's noticeably louder than the fan I was using in the window to try to keep the air moving. I can still sleep with it going on as it's more or less just white noise, but if you're a light sleeper, or sensitive to noise you can forget it. The blue light is actually more distracting to me. It's nearly bright enough to read by in a darkened room, and there's no way to turn it off. However, that is easily remedied by putting a couple of post-it notes over the panel. There is no way to muffle the noise however. The compressor is louder than the fan inside the unit, so the fan setting doesn't really matter while the compressor is running. The fan by itself is reasonably quiet in the lowest mode. The window kit that comes with the unit extends to a maximum of about 46". That was about 8" shorter than my vertical sliding window opening. The first night I filled the gap with a piece of cardboard, which worked OK. However, I was a little concerned about losing the cool air through the plastic/cardboard, so I purchased some rigid insulating foam board from the hardware store, and am using just the hose connection panel with the remaining gap filled by the foam. I would recommend at least using some foam insulating tape (not included) around the edges of the window kit for a better seal. Overall, I'm pleased with the unit. The two things I'd wish for would be for it to be quieter, and have some way of turning off the panel light. If you're not trying to use it in your bedroom, I would think that this would be excellent for spot-cooling any reasonably sized room.

5 Ice Cold 600 Square Foot Room on a 107 degree day.
Posted by Stephen Shelton on Oct 7th 2024
So, like you, I researched and YouTubed every A/C and type. Dual hose was a MUST for large rooms in area of the US where it gets extremely hot. This model I had to wait a couple months to finally be back in stock on every website but I knew I needed the Best Buy Warranty, especially in something this expensive. This thing happens to break, like other models do, I can take it right back to the store and get another one. So, I did curbside pickup and brought this home over 3 weeks ago. I live in the High Desert of a California, that place you pass with Tumbleweeds, on your way to Vegas. It gets up to 120, some days during our worst summers. Well, so far our hottest day while I had this unit was 107 degrees. It kept my almost 600 square foot room nice and COLD, it even turns itself off when it reaches your desired temperature. It has no problem keeping this large room cool and staying that way on the hottest of days and seems to do so with ease; so I'm extremely happy about this purchase. This was expensive and works as good as the glowing reviews say! And if it takes a poop on me for whatever reason I'll use my warranty and get another one, so the peace of mind with Best Buy Geek Squad added warranty makes me feel safe with my purchase and getting years of use out of this Whynter AC. If you had any doubts, just do it, it's awesome. Oh and I normally don't write reviews- so yes, these are my own thoughts, no I'm not sponsored, or receiving deals, discounts, or compensation for my review. (I wish LOL.)

5 Great purchase
Posted by Dawn Jennings on Oct 6th 2024
This bad boy works kind of bulky!! i like the evaporation while using dry mode , also the carbon air filter is a plus , keep the unit on for 24hrs with lid aiming to the ceiling, my bill was actually lower for these hot summer days.
