Product Overview
The Whynter ARC-1230WNH Inverter Dual Hose Portable Air Conditioner and Heater has the highest cooling and heating BTU (14,000 ASHRAE / 12,000 SACC) in the market. The cooling power you need to cool, dehumidify or circulate the air in up to 600 sq. ft of space. Smart functionalities include the NetHome Plus app to control your portable air conditioner through Wi-Fi from virtually anywhere. You can also control it with Amazon Alexa or Google Home voice assistant. Intelligent features such as the 24-hour Timer, Sleep Mode, Auto restart, Self-Diagnosis, Express Run Settings, Schedules, and Filter Check Reminder Light. As pioneers in the air comfort industry, we are introducing the next-generation Inverter Technology currently only being used in high-efficiency ductless mini-split air conditioners to our NEX line of portable air conditioners. The variable-speed system allows the compressor to optimize efficiency and power consumption together while maintaining a specified output. The advantages of inverter technology are estimated 40% – 50% in energy savings, 2 times quicker to achieve desired temperature, quieter operation, minimized temperature fluctuations, no voltage peaks from the compressor. The innovative two-hose-in-one design and the sealed bottom structure ensure no heat leakage. This cooling setup extracts and exhausts air from the outside, so the indoor space reaches an independent and balanced cool air circulation. As a result, the entire room can be cooled down quickly and effectively. The noise level is as low as 47dB(A) in low fan speed, almost as quite as a library. You can control your portable air conditioner anywhere with the NetHome Plus app for Android and iOS and make your home comfortable even before you arrive. Also, you can use Amazon Alexa or Google Home voice assistant to operate the air conditioner.

5 The electric sipper!
Posted by Jack Gibbs on Oct 13th 2024
I normally never write reviews but this AC unit deserved my time. We live in a 1000ft apartment, with lots of electronics and fish tanks, all of which creates heat. We have a window AC unit in the bedroom which works great, but it really only cools the bedroom, it’s difficult to get the cold air out and to the rest of the place. We have used a LG portable in the past that lasted for 1 season. Then a GE that lasted less than a season, both would draw 13amps all the time. While they cooled the area when they worked, they would constantly draw 13amps as the compressor usually was running. Now we have the Whynter ARC-1230WNH. I had it shipped to BestBuy. The box was intact, but the straps was loose on it. Upon getting it home and unboxing it, the unit sits on a large amount of foam. That foam was shattered in lots of pieces. To my surprise the unit was completely fine, no damage to the unit. The window is only 14” wide so I cut the plastic just as I’ve had to do on past units. Upon startup, the unit pulled 3 amps, then it ramps up over about 30 seconds when it maxes out at about 13.64 amps. At the time it was 85F in the room, within an hour it was down to 78F. I normally leave it between 74-77F depending on the day. I have it set on cool with the fan on auto and it’s right next to the couch where we watch TV. The unit is very quiet. The unit itself basically doesn’t make any noise, the fan does of course. We can hear the TV just fine. Most of the time it draws 3.6 amps. When it needs to cool more it goes to 8.5 amps. The only time I see it pull 13 amps is when it’s off and hot in the room and it’s first turned on. Once it gets to the desired temperature it’s 3.5 or 8.5 amps, and I’d say it’s a 3.5 amps 70% of the time. This is a very large reduction in electric usage vs past models used. The inverter really helps and this alone made me happy with the purchase. Also the lights don’t dim around the house when the compressor comes on since it always ramps up, it does not spike. It’s also very smart. While it has its own app like many smart AC units, it also can be intergraded into your smart home by Alexa, IFTTT etc. and be made part of an automation. The remote also has a temperature sensor, if you turn on isense it will read the temp from the remote instead of inside the unit. We have noticed using the isense to be more accurate, the one in the AC unit reads cooler then it actually is which is typical of these units so that’s a nice addition. Because of the L shape apartment, we use a Dreo fan to push air around the corner which works extremely well. And this AC has no issues keeping up even in 95F weather. It does have multiple drains, but we have not needed to connect them, the self evaporator does the job. The hose does not get hot either like some models, it does get slightly warm but not enough for me to insulate it anymore than it already is. I hope this helped someone out there and I was able to answer some questions you might have had. Stay cool.

1 Bad experience. I hope Whynter will fix the issues
Posted by Christopher Reynolds on Oct 4th 2024
When Whynter fixes all the issues, I will give it five stars and buy at least two of them. The positives: 1. The unit is quiet. 2. Cools very well the large room (around 500 sq f). Negatives: 1. I ordered a new item but got an open box item. 2. The box is funny. One side of the box says AC “Cools up to 500 sq. f” while the opposite side says AC “Cools up to 600 sq. f.” 3. Because of the open box, the window panel was broken. I contacted Whynter Support. Right away, they sent me a replacement. Guess what I got? The hose. I contacted them again. They apologized and said I could keep the hose, and they were going to send the window panel again. Guess what I got? The second hose. After that, they asked to send the hoses back. LOL. Finally, I got the window panel. 4. The AC worked perfectly for almost two months. A few days ago, it showed the error EH 06 and did not work. I contacted Support. The part of their response was, “To further assist you, please provide a photo of the unit’s display with the error code on it as well as how the unit was set up. Also, please provide the ambient room temperature.” So, if the Support does not know what this error code exactly means, how to fix it, and can not help me, I decided to return the unit. 5. When I started to move the unit from the room, I got a massive water leak from the bottom (I used this unit only in a cooling mode). Thus, it means there are problems with self-evaporating (or whatever this option calls). 6. The company does not yet start manufacturing and selling extended panels for balcony doors (I checked this info in July 2022). I am a fan of the Whynter ACs. I have 3 of them (different models). I liked the ARC-1230WNH very much, but unfortunately, I had to return it. Please fix all the issues, and I will buy at least two of them as I promised above!

2 Heat pump does not work in cold weather
Posted by Ashley Chapman on Oct 1st 2024
Heat pump does not work in cold weather According to a reply on one of the reviews, the heat pump refuses to turn on in temperatures below about 50 degrees F. This means that it is essentially useless to have a heat pump function. This is extremely disappointing, and I likely will be returning the unit because of this. I usually don't need heat until the temperatures fall below freezing. It is unacceptable that the heat pump refuses to turn on in these conditions. It is currently below freezing, and for the first time I am trying to use the heat pump, and it is not turning on whatever I try.

5 Great portable air conditioner!
Posted by Richard Davis MD on Sep 27th 2024
Easy hookup to the window, just snaps into place with 4 tabs. Set it up to connect with my iphone and I can turn it on and control it from anywhere in the house as long as I'm connected to the home wifi. Blows very cold A/C, enough to cool 2 rooms. I checked the drain after having it for a couple of months and nothing drained out, so it's great not to have to have a drain hooked up or worry about it building up. It does have a code if the reservoir for some reason would fill up. Haven't tried the heat setting, but have used the fan. It's good to run the fan for a while after using the A/C to avoid any musty/moldy buildup (you should in your car also). Using the inverter technology it doesn't draw much current so it is good on the utility bill. Great unit. Very pleased with it.

5 My New Whynter Heating and Cooling Portable Unit
Posted by Chad Baldwin on Sep 17th 2024
I purchased the model ARC 1230 WNH from Best Buy to cool my small unheated, no air sunroom. We installed it this past weekend and it is doing an excellent job keeping us cool and comfortable and my ceiling fan is helping to circulate the air during these hot summer days. It also has heat, so I am looking forward to seeing how well it performs on cold days and nights. It was easy to set up, and when I had a few questions, Whynter was there to answer them for me. The portable unit also operates quietly. I think this is a good purchase. I am happy with it.

Amazing. We have purchased multiple portable units over the years and none have done as great of a job as this one has.

5 Perfect for my needs.
Posted by Danielle Coffey on Sep 13th 2024
Super quiet and puts out a lot of cold air. As other have mentioned, it works best if you set a fan in front of it to push to air through the room better. I use it to cool my complete basement. I haven’t used the heat function yet but it will probably be put to test in a few weeks.
